Tenali Raman, who lived in the early 16th century, was one of the Ashtadiggajas (eight elephants serving as pillars) of the Vijayanagara court. He was a poet of knowledge, acute wit and intelligence, shrewdness and ingenuity. In the court of Krishna Devaraya he often found himself in precarious, perilous situations.
But Tenali Raman always escaped unscathed through his resourcefulness. He trounced learned men, poets and the highbrowed!
